Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a level of intelligence where a machine can successfully perform any intellectual task that a human being can. It’s the objective of artificial intelligence research and a common, often chilling topic in science fiction.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you view it), we are far from building robots with a level of AGI, though there has been a dramatic rise in the rate that AI has improved in the last few years, and so the debate is being renewed.
Will robots with the capability of human intelligence be a good thing for us? Or as Stephen Hawking and more recently Elon Musk have stated, will this level of artificial intelligence threaten our very existence?
We at Nimbletank are optimistic and feel that the creative world’s tendency to paint machine intelligence as a negative advance doesn’t help. AI entrepreneurs see reality differently and many of them are creating future-facing solutions that will benefit the lives of people around the world in great ways.
